Review of P90X

You all have probably seen the infomercial for the P90X fitness system since it seems to air every Saturday morning. I admit I was intrigued, especially since the system is based on "muscle confusion."
I decided to give the system a look-sy, so I ordered a copy off of ebay for only $64.00. I will say this, it is worth my $64.00 and then some! The system arrives with twelve separate workout DVD's. There's chest/back, yoda-x, back/legs, shoulders/arms, cardio-x, ab ripper, etc.
Each DVD comprises one single daily workout which keeps your enthusiasm high because everyday it's something different.
I'll admit that after spending decades in the gym and having tried every program known to mankind, I myself needed a change. Over the past several months I have become bored. In fact, prior to this week I had only worked-out out 5 times over the past two weeks. There is no exercise for that since I am in the gym anyway, training my clients. Recently I have found myself constantly changing workout programs. Some weeks I do no cardio but train with weights circuit-style. Other weeks I cut back on my weights and performed cardio everyday. There was a two week stretch that I performed bodyweight calisthenics exclusively. All in all, I was mentally burned out. P90X arrives to the rescue!
The P90X is a program that keeps your mind and body fresh...which is important when you have aa great deal of training experience, years and years in the gym. Your mind's need for change and freshness SUPERCEDES your body's/muscle's needs. Your mind controls your body, your muscles do not have minds of their own. What needs constant stimulation is your mind, so that you remain enthused and do not go mentally stale. In my opinion P90X accomplishes this.

Do I believe this program is more successful at building muscle and/or burning fat than any other program? I am not saying that at all. You have to experience the program for yourself and YOU be the judge. Here's the way I look at it. I have been stale and totally unenthused about exercising for several months. That alone precluded me from progress. In fact, I lost 7 total pounds of bodyweight (mostly muscle) in the past month. By "recharging" my mind and my level of interest, my muscles and fat cells are receiving new stimulation and thus, more muscle and less fat. Therefore the system works.
I enjoy all of the workouts in the DVD series as the workouts do involve some bodyweight movements such as pull-ups, various pushups and lunges. The BEST of the DVD's is the plyometric DVD. It kicks ass. In fact, I hate admitting this, but I couldn't complete the workout. I lasted 34 minutes and the workout is an hour! I am in awesome shape and I have stamina but this is definitely and workout that requires "baby steps."
